Introduction
To protect their country, Taiwanese men are required to serve in the military for one year, while women have to serve as magic girls for one year. Lei Hsiao-ling recently became eligible for conscription into the magic girls, and she is assigned to the toughest camp, the Thunder Magic Camp. After she navigates life at boot camp and passes the training and finally joins the army, Hsiao-ling finds herself hazed by officers and senior troops and accidentally caught up in the army’s internal conflicts. Luckily, with the help of her fellow soldiers and friends, Hsiao-ling’s life as a rookie magic girl gradually gets better.
But then an alien army that has been long biding its time invades Taiwan, using defensive magic seals to block off counter-attacking forces, leaving only Hsiao-ling’s camp with a slim chance of breaking through the lines. Will she be able to make use of her training to protect her homeland on the eve of the largest magical war in history?
Combining elements of fantasy and military life, the author blends his own experiences of serving in the military with a lighthearted and humorous plot to tell a fascinating tale of a female coming-of-age adventure.
